I’m willing to adapt changes and exciting to learn new things,” says Meghabharathi alias Manimegalai who conducts Workshop on Macrame, an art of hand weaving at TASMAI, a Centre for Art & Culture, Pondicherry.
The Workshop introduces the basics of Macrame, a crafting technique that uses knots to create various textiles that can be used to make everything.
The age old practice has gone in and out of popularity for thousands of years and this versatile form of fibre art can be used to make Wall hangings, Plant hangers, Jewelry, Purses, Table Runners, Key chains and even clothing items as to decorate home and also to make gifts for beloveds.
The aesthetic and functional aspects of the art can be enjoyed in the Workshop by using beautiful eco-friendly mediums that are found in abundance locally.
Meghabharathi alias Manimegalai is one of the Macrame artists and explores creativity through Painting, Sketching, Thumb Print Art, Caricature, Mud and Lime Murals, Coconut Shell Craft, Bamboo carving, Pebble Art, Paper Mache, Paper making, Crochet and Hammock.
She studied B.Tech in Civil Engineering from Anna University, Nagapattinam and underwent a Self designed Learning Programme on Sustainable Architecture and Self Understanding from Swaraj University, Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Manimegalai has been experimenting with natural building techniques and doing Consultancy. She has worked with many leading organisations including L & T and HMRL projects.
She is an explorer and a traveller.
She supports, encourages and empower women through ‘Kalaiagam Handicrafts.’
