RHYTHMIC KASHI invites all to the LIVE PERFORMANCE of DIPANKAR ROY CHOUDHURY/SLIDE GUITARIST
Sunday 5th June 2022 (8:00 PM onwards) /
Dipankar Roy Choudhury is a well-known Indian Slide Guitarist of the young generation. He started his musical training at a very young age. He belongs to Imdadkhani Gharana (School of Music). Initially his teacher was his cousin, Chand Mukherjee and later he started learning from Lt. Rajesh Moyitra, a well-known Sarod player from Varanasi. He has warmth, melody and depth in his voice which he inherited from his father Promoth S. Roy Choudhury. After the initial training, his hard work was rewarded when Sitar Maestro Ustad Shujaat Khan, the great grandson of Ustad Imdad Khan and son of legendary Sitarist Ustad Vilayet Khan accepted him as his student. Although Imdad Khani Gharana is dominated by Sitar and Surbahar players, Dipanker Roy is the only Slide Guitarist who represents this gharana.
Dipankar Roy has performed innumerable shows and has been associated with various prestigious events “World Music Festival” in Moscow, Russia in 2004 and “World Food Festival” in Vietnam in 2010.
He is the core member of the internationally acclaimed fusion band “Impulse”. He is a graded artist of AIR.
Dipankar Roy has been conducting workshops on Indian classical music, composing songs and orchestras for schools and other organisations. He has been honoured many awards including Sangit Sadhak Upadhi by Gandhi Sahitya Sabha, New Delhi, Sahitya Kala Parishad from Ministry of Culture and “Shikshak Shree 2012”.
He has a dream of opening a chain of Indian Slide Guitar Schools to give the instrument a better platform and now he has started a Music and Art Academy – “SHREE a tradition…”
