Kiran Dixit Thacker’s Our Ashram…Santiniketan: Sculpting Memory, Rhythm, and Resilience
At the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, acclaimed sculptor and painter Kiran Dixit Thacker—the only living female disciple of the legendary Ramkinkar Baij—presents her solo exhibition Our Ashram…Santiniketan from 2nd to 9th March 2026.
Featuring over one hundred works across bronze, mild steel, stone, watercolour and drawing, the exhibition traces her lifelong dialogue with the landscape and spirit of Santiniketan.
Rooted in figurative sculpture yet enriched by geometric rigor, Kiran Dixit Thacker’s oeuvre radiates resilience and joy, shaped by the influence of Ramkinkar Baij and Somnath Hore. Standout pieces such as The Goat, Three Santhal Men, and sensitive bronzes like Owls and Lovers reveal her tactile mastery and deep empathy for village and tribal life. Despite personal hardships, her art embodies optimism—each line and surface carrying strength, playfulness, and emotional resonance.
“I have always loved shaping metal—heat and a careful hand let you coax any form from a stubborn sheet,” reflects Kiran Dixit Thacker, the only living female disciple of Ramkinkar Baij. While bronze remains close to her heart, its cost and fragility led her to embrace mild steel, a medium that allows boldness with economy. Her years in London sharpened her technique, yet it is Santiniketan—with its ponds, birds, barefoot walks, and shifting seasons—that continues to inspire her deepest enchantment.
