KHAS-iyat: An Evening of Hindustani Classical Music with Rekha Surya in New Delhi

In the heart of New Delhi, KHAS-iyat unfolds at Nature Bazaar, on Saturday, 28 March 2026, as a luminous celebration of Hindustani Classical music, presented by Dastkar Gali-e-Khas in association with Kirgiti and Sangraha.

The evening will be graced by the renowned vocalist Rekha Surya, a distinguished disciple of Padma Bhushan Begum Akhtar and Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi ji. Carrying forward the timeless traditions of Ghazal-Gayaki, Rekha Surya embodies the delicate blend of heritage and soul, weaving poetry into melody with rare finesse.

Recipient of the Karamvir Puraskar (2012) for her dedication to singing Sufi poetry in Thumri-Dadra-Ghazal, Rekha Surya has been instrumental in keeping alive the evocative traditions of Hindustani music. An A Grade Artist with All India Radio and empanelled with ICCR, her artistry resonates across borders. She has performed at prestigious institutions worldwide—from the Smithsonian and Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States to Harvard, Yale and the University of Toronto—representing India’s musical legacy with grace.

Her voice has carried the essence of India to international festivals, including the Asian Music Festival in Sri Lanka (1999) and the International Falak Festival in Tajikistan (2006). Twice featured by BBC London, Rekha Surya now resides in New Delhi, continuing to enchant audiences with her soulful renditions.

KHAS-IYAT PROMISES NOT JUST A CONCERT, BUT AN IMMERSION INTO THE LIVING TRADITION OF HINDUSTANI CLASSICAL MUSIC, WHERE EVERY NOTE IS STEEPED IN HISTORY, DEVOTION, AND TIMELESS BEAUTY.
