INDIA CHINA 5 POINT AGREEMENT

After an elaborate meeting in Moscow, facilitated by Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi agreed on a five-point course of action to reduce tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The joint press statement issued after the meeting between the two ministers said:

‘’The two Foreign Ministers agreed that the current situation in the border area is not in the interest of either side.  They agreed, therefore that the border troops of both sides should continue their dialogue, maintain proper distance and ease tensions”.

 It is agreed that both sides should take guidance from the series of consensus reached between leaders of the two countries on India-China relations.

All existing agreements and protocols on the matters of boundary, maintain peace and tranquility and avoid any action that could escalate matters are to be followed.

Russia welcomed India and China’s decision to de-escalate tensions in eastern Ladakh.
