The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore has been ranked the world’s top research university in the QS World Rankings 2022.

 IISc Bangalore has a score of 100 out of 100 for the Citations Per Faculty (CPF), indicator of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World Rankings, an annual publication of university rankings in the world which assess academic institutions on six metrics.

 This is the first time that an Indian institute has scored 100 in research or any other parameters in the ranking.

However, the IISc has been judged the third best university, the IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi stood first and second positions in India.

The criteria include academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty and international faculty ratio/international student ratio.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology tops in the world ranking for the last ten years.  The University of Oxford has placed second rank, while University of Stanford and Cambridge University shared the third rank in the list.

QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS),  previously known as Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings.
