Triveni Gallery, New Delhi presents HERE COMES THE SUN, a solo exhibition of recent artworks of the distinguished Gurgaon based artist Sangeeta Singh, who has been awarded Junior and Senior Fellowship from Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The exhibition will be inaugurated by renowned Curator, Poet and Art Critic Prayag Shukla on 14 April 2024 and the show will continue till 22 April 2024. The Preview of the show will be held on 13 April 2024, 5.00 PM onwards.

“My recent works are souvenirs of my emotional shift. They are dreamlike, transcending and mysterious. In my work process I work with multiple layers. It gives me the feeling of going deeper and deeper when I scratch the surface and witness the wonders of under layers. My art is deeply connected to my life and I draw inspiration from my own life experiences,” says renowned artist Sangeeta Singh.

Sangeeta Singh is a highly acclaimed artist known for her unique blend of emotions and creativity. With numerous exhibitions to her credit, Sangeeta features approximately 25 paintings and 3 sculptures here and continues to captivate audiences with her evocative and thought-provoking artworks.

“Sangeeta Singh’s recent creations serve as tangible expressions of her evolving emotional journey, primarily stemming from the prolific year of 2023. Before this period, there was a substantial hiatus, a deliberate pause, lasting for a year and a half. During this sabbatical, she delved into the intricate labyrinth of her inner emotions, allowing them to flow freely and without the constraints of external creation. However, this introspective respite proved to be a pivotal phase, a cocoon where transformation took place. It incubated the formation of a diverse collection of work, a veritable buffet of energies and the raw fabric of reality itself,” says the Curator of the Show.

“This fresh direction in her artistic practice gave her a new approach to work.  The allure of colours and textures which became apparent during this time, drew her into a gradual shift towards layering her creations and employing a method of gentle scratching to uncover the concealed undertones,” he added.

“Sangeeta Singh contains multitudes in her works, though there are dualities apparent in the selection of her imageries. Sangeeta paints her ‘self’ therefore she paints a ‘multitude’ which is translated in the collective imagination as India. However, the emotional and experiential boundaries that she has pushed and breached have a variety of threads to offer in her weaving of the composite images that Sangeeta displays in the present body of paintings, drawings and sculptures. These works, generally speaking, carry a singular sense of healing, emotional empathy, forgiving and compassion. There is a camaraderie with those living entities outside the homocentric discursive world; the smooth entry of birds, animals and flowers as definitive images underlines this varied existential bonding and conversations of the artist,” says renowned art critic, curator, writer and art historian Johny ML.

Sangeeta Singh studied science before changing her course to pursue her passion for painting and trained at the Triveni Kala Sangam as a protégé of eminent artist Rameshwar Broota. She has conducted 13 solo shows and more than 70 group shows in India and abroad. Also attended many International Conferences and art camps including in Austria, Italy and Turkey. She was honoured with many awards including the ‘Kala Gaurav Samman’ (2022) by Government of Haryana and Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Raja Ravi Varma Chitrakaar Award (2023) from Megh Mandal Sansthan and Lalit Kala Akademi.

“For art enthusiasts and connoisseurs, ‘HERE COMES THE SUN’ promises an immersive experience into the profound and evolving world of Sangeeta Singh’s artistic expression. The exhibition will be a celebration of creativity, emotion, and the transformative power of art,” curator Prayag Shukla explains in detail and invites all to enjoy the amazing creativity.

Renowned artist Sangeeta Singh teaches art to young learners and aspiring artists. She lives and works in Gurgaon now.
