Guardian of the Field — Sculptural Reflections on Agrarian Memory

From 19 to 26 April 2026, Tasmai, a Centre for Art & Culture in Puducherry, coordinates the presentation of the Public Art — “Guardian of the Field”, a profound sculptural installation by Sezhian.I   (Daily 3-7 PM / Morning by appointment/ Monday Holiday).

This evocative work reimagines the bull as a sentinel — a hybrid figure poised between human and animal, land and labour, ritual and resistance.

The installation features a towering bull-headed guardian holding two vertical staffs fashioned from salvaged tree roots and branches. These organic forms echo both agricultural tools and ceremonial symbols, embodying the fading presence of native cattle culture while questioning who carries the memory of soil and safeguards the field.

Through its striking form, the sculpture becomes more than an object of art — it is a meditation on inheritance, responsibility, and the transformation of rural ecosystems. The bull’s head invokes agrarian memory, while the human body signifies the weight of continuity.

Together, they stand as a reminder of resilience, resistance and the fragile balance between tradition and change.
