COP 26: GLASGOW CLIMATE CONFERENCE
The UK is hosting the UN Summit on Climate in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November 2021.
Nearly 200 countries will be participating in the conference with their plans to cut emissions that affect the global climate by 2030.
All the countries in the Paris Accord agreed in 2015 to make all efforts to keep global warming well below 2 C above pre-industrial levels and to aim for 1.5 C to avoid a climate disaster.
In the Glasgow summit, world leaders and member countries’ representatives are expected to declare announcements that could include specific commitments for this planet’s future.
Earlier rich countries promised $100billion a year to help others by 2020 but the target was not seen materialized.
Will the major fossil fuel producers like China declare a reduction in production of the most polluting coal?
Only a few countries have updated their climate goals as per Paris Accord and announced the deadline for phasing out coal to achieve “Net Zero” carbon emission target by 2050.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to attend the Glasgow Summit on 31 October and is expected to launch the “one world, one solar, one grid” initiative along with UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
