GENERAL ELECTION 2024
BJP LED NDA WON A THIRD TERM BUT WITH REDUCED MAJORITY
National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi won a third term in the Lok Sabha elections held in 7 phases, securing 292 seats against the Congress led INDIA block’s 234 seats. This time, BJP will be dependent on the allies as it fell almost 32 seats short of the half-way mark of 272 seats to form a government at the Centre. The Congress won 99 seats, compared to 52 in the last Lok Sabha elections held in 2019. BJP faced great setbacks in the major northern state, Uttar Pradesh ending with 35 seats from its earlier tally of 62 seats, Congress performed unprecedentedly capturing 44 seats along with its ally, Samajwadi Party. The Lok Sabha election results have brought back coalitions of political parties back at the Centre and an opposition in the Parliament after a decade, and will mark a consensual approach in the Lok Sabha in coming days.
