Gaudiya Nritya Workshop 2025: Honing Classical Excellence Through Chari and Nrittanga
On 14th September 2025, the sacred precincts of Nischinda Harisabha (Radha Madhav Temple), Bally Nischinda, echoed with the rhythmic grace of Bengal’s classical dance heritage as 28 advanced-level students gathered for an intensive Gaudiya Nritya Workshop.
Guided by the revered Guru Prof. Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, the session focused on refining foundational elements—Chari (movement techniques) and Nrittanga (basic steps)—essential to mastering the spiritual and aesthetic depth of Gaudiya Nritya.
Organized collaboratively by Udisha Nritya Sriti and Gaudiya Sureshwari, under the stewardship of Dr. Paromita Banerjee and Dipanwita Banerjee, the workshop embodied a commitment to preserving and elevating Bengal’s traditional dance form.
The Scholarly Grace of Dr. Paromita Banerjee and Dipanwita Banerjee and Saheli Pal
In the vibrant tapestry of Bengal’s classical dance revival, two torchbearers shine with quiet brilliance—Dr. Paromita Banerjee and Dipanwita Banerjee. Under the profound mentorship of Guru Prof. Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, both have carved distinct yet harmonious paths in the realm of Gaudiya Nritya. Dr. Paromita, a Ph.D. scholar and recipient of both the Senior National Scholarship and Junior Fellowship, has also served as a Project Fellow at The Asiatic Society, Kolkata—her journey a fusion of academic rigor and artistic devotion.
Dipanwita, equally accomplished, holds the Senior National Scholarship and balances her role as a Senior English Teacher with her passion for dance, nurturing talent through her institute, Udisha Nritya Sriti. Together, they embody the confluence of scholarship, pedagogy and cultural preservation, breathing life into Gaudiya Nritya with every step and syllable.
Assisting in the pedagogy was Saheli Pal, a repertory member of Gaudiya Nritya Bharati and recipient of the Senior National Scholarship, whose unique blend of academic prowess (Double MA in Philosophy and Dance) and athletic discipline as a badminton coach at Birla School, Kolkata, added a dynamic layer to the learning experience.
