Gaudiya Nritya: Bengal’s Classical Dance Finds Its Voice in Bhubaneswar

On Friday, 30 October 2026 evening, Pragyanam Hall at Vivekananda Kendra’s Academy for Indian Culture, Yoga and Management (VK-AICYAM), Bhubaneswar,  transformed into a vibrant confluence of history, aesthetics, and cultural memory. The occasion was a seminar on “Gaudiya Nritya – The Classical Dance Form of Bengal” by the renowned Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, Former Professor and Dean, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.

Through her insightful discourse, Gaudiya Nritya emerged not merely as a performative art but as a living repository of devotion, poetry, and the rich cultural ethos of eastern India.

The evening reached a graceful culmination when Dr. Santosh Mohanty, Director of VK-AICYAM, and Shri Laxminarayan Panigrahi, Secretary of the Kendra, felicitated Dr. Mukherjee in recognition of her invaluable contribution to Indian classical arts.

Deeply touched by the honor, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude, remarking —

“It’s a great pleasure for me to receive the honour in the name of this great legendary Saint and Scholar, Swamy Vivekananda.”

Her words resonated with the spirit of the institution, where scholarship and cultural service walk hand in hand.

Established in 2020 as a dedicated initiative of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, VK-AICYAM stands today as a dynamic centre for research, training, and intellectual engagement in the fields of Indian culture, yoga, and management. Envisioned as a leading think tank for Eastern India, the academy nurtures meaningful dialogue through seminars, workshops, conferences, and publications, creating a vital space where timeless traditions find renewed relevance in contemporary society.

Evenings like this remind us that tradition lives on through those who care for it, and Dr. Mukherjee is carrying Gaudiya Nritya forward with devotion.
