Flash Floods on Nepal-Tibet Border Leave Over 100 Dead, Hundreds Missing

India assures all possible assistance to Nepal for rescue and relief operations

A massive flash flood and mudslide struck the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday, August 26, after a landslide — possibly triggered by a 4.4-magnitude earthquake and the draining of a glacial lake in Tibet — blocked the Bhote Koshi River. The surge tore through villages in Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts, sweeping away homes, roads, bridges and hydropower infrastructure. Officials have confirmed at least 95 deaths, with the toll expected to rise once floodwaters recede and rescue teams reach the worst-hit areas.
