EXHIBITION OF TEXTILE INDIGO PAINTINGS BY FACULTY MEMBERS, STUDENTS OF DEPARTMENT OF CRAFTS, UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA

The Exhibition of Textile Paintings by faculty members and students of Department of Craft, University of Dhaka and guest artists executed during the workshops conducted by the renowned artist Sangeeta Gupta was inaugurated by eminent artist Professor Abdus Shakoor Shah in the gracious presence of Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka on 17 August 2023.

Paintings of the renowned artist Sangeeta Gupta were also showcased in the Exhibition at India House, High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh, Dhaka.

Seminar and screening of the documentary film on the Textile Paintings was also held at Osman Jamal Auditorium, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka.

The two art workshops/ hands on experience held at India House, High commission of India in Bangladesh on 28 and 29 July 2023 during Sangeeta Gupta’s solo exhibition for students, faculty members of Craft Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Charukola, University of Dhaka and other guests was exhibited along with Sangeeta Gupta’s textile paintings at Zainul gallery, Charukola, University of Dhaka from 17th to 19th August.

On the inaugural day a seminar was conducted wherein students had a meaningful active question/answer session with the artist and it was followed by the screening of the documentary film, AADIYOGI SHIV. It was a unique experience for the students,” said Sangeeta Gupta, renowned artist, Poet and Filmmaker.

Sangeeta Gupta is an abstract artist, bilingual poet, writer and documentary filmmaker and she has exhibited 36 solo shows of paintings in India and abroad. She has published 25 books including 14 anthologies of poems in Hindi and 6 in English, 10 of them are translated in German, Greek, Mandarin, English, Bangla, Dogri, Tamil and Urdu. Sangeeta Gupta has directed and scripted 30 documentary films, 7 of them are in the collection of Library of Congress, US.

Sangeeta Gupta has participated in more than 200 group shows in India and abroad.  She has received many awards including the Limca Book of record for her Indigo paintings on sustainable handspun khaddar textile-‘Aadiyogi Shiv – a journey in cosmic indigo’.

“Artist heal themselves through their art and then their art heals the viewers. Artists are healers of society. They bring peace, harmony and joy to the wounded souls who are witnessing so much turmoil in the world today,” says artist Sangeeta Gupta.
