EMBODIED ENCOUNTER /

An Exhibition – Embodied Encounter by Shyam Aramban is on show at ISHI Gallery, Varanasi under a visionary project –  Ether that promotes young and diverse artists from South-Asia experimenting with a variety of methods, mediums and forms.

Ether project is a collective working towards democratising art disseminating it to a wider public eye.

EMBODIED ENCOUNTER – the artistic oeuvre of the young artist, Shyam Aramban is conceptualised by young art writer Satyam Yadav, whose areas of interest broadly include contemporary art, visual cultures of queerness and sexuality in relation to intellectual and bio-political histories of modern South Asia.

“The self and the city coalesce in an unusual reflective dialogue to inform emotion, meaning, and memory in Shyam Aramban’s paintings. This novel embodies self-produced mediations that obscure separations between the body and the social, rendering them actively auto-configuring in a state of constant flux. Shyam’s fantastical drawings tap into analogous linkages between sense and sensations of our everyday lives, evincing dialectics that tread in and out of conventions of ‘lumping and splitting’ in reconstructing consciousness which is grounded not merely in theory but material practice,”  said Satyam Yadav, currently pursuing a masters in Gender Studies from School of Human Studies, Ambedkar University, Delhi.

Shyam Aramban  graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts (Painting) and a diploma in Visual Communication from the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kerala in 2015. He completed his Masters in Fine Arts (Painting) from Banaras Hindu University in 2017.

He has received a national young artist scholarship by CCRT and participated in several national and  international group shows including Kochi Muziris Biennale, “ kalaparva” Art fair National Lalithakala Akademi, Lucknow (2018), “VARA” solo exhibition in Kalasrot art gallery, Lucknow, 98th All India annual art exhibition of The Art Society of India in Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2016), “ KASHI’’ solo exhibition conducted by Government of Kerala (2020) .

Shyam Aramban has worked as an assistant art director for the Brazilian movie “Echoes of silence” and as an Illustrator for several Spanish and Malayalam books.

His works are a part of many private collections around the world.

Shyam Aramban now lives and works in Varanasi.
