DR KALYAN MUKHERJEA MEMORIAL FESTIVAL FROM 16–18 FEBRUARY 2024
Raga Fellowship Foundation, Toronto and Delhi presents an expanded second edition of their flagship festival, Dr Kalyan Mukherjea Memorial Festival: Six Concerts in Tribute, at the GD Birla Sabhagar, Kolkata from 16 February 2024 to 18 February 2024.
“As a thoughtfully-curated festival prioritising serious music, the concerts of this three-day program capture something essential to the spirit of the eponymous maestro it pays tribute to. Dr Kalyan Mukherjea’s music was marked by a depth and seriousness that while it eschewed popular acclaim, won the hearts of informed listeners,” says the organisers of the Festival.
“Mukherjea’s disciple and the Creative-Director of the festival, the Toronto-based sarod maestro, Arnab Chakrabarty, billed as the shining star of the Shahjahanpur gharana, will open the proceedings on Friday, 16 February 2024. He will be followed by the Agra gharana scion Waseem Ahmed Khan’s vocal recital. Saturday, 17 February 2024 features two exciting recitals, with the Patiala gharana trailblazer Samrat Pandit, the son of the legendary Pandit Jagdish Prasad will present a vocal recital, followed by a sarod recital by renowned Prattyush Banerjee on Sarod.
On Sunday, 18 February 2024, Vinayak Chittar of Goa, an original exegete of the Vilayat Khan style sitar, will make a rare appearance in Kolkata. He will be followed by the ‘Cleopatra of Hindustani music’, Begum Parween Sultana, arguably the most senior khayal vocalist of the day,” briefs about the musical extravaganza to be presented to the music lovers of Kolkata.
