BUCOLIC REALMS OF REALITY
Embedded symbolic entities attest to dimensions of the ancient, modern and beyond, conjure these recent works (2019-2021) by Tapan Dash. Ever redefining, such oeuvres, based on drawing and rhythmic line, unfold the imagination and strength of the artist’s perspective. There is a pastoral dialectic of release from techniques of classic, material traditions of art, resulting in a dynamic dialogue of ever-reconfiguring blends of figural and abstract dimensions of animals and humans.
Fecund forests and swaying boughs, such paradigms of a natural order bring forth echoes of dramatic and bold landscape akin to the legendary Dutch painter Vincent Wilhelm van Gogh. Similarly, Dash’s strident brushwork evokes space and time beyond the pictorial plane evoking a sensorial naïve wilderness like the French artist Henri Julien Felix Rousseau.
His creative endeavours unfurl in a narrative manner, akin to tapestries of woven organic elements replete with diverse imagery. Herewith explored are the rich figural and symbolic prowess of the Hamsa: its/their magical, lyric and mythological connotations. These beings span an identity broaching the mortal and the divine; their heavy-lidded eyes cross dimensions, but never directly at the viewer.
Resplendent symbols of the individual soul and spirit, of mythical omnipotence of knowledge, thus all is interconnected, now undertake the journey of his paintings and saga.
Mosaic brick roads play a significant role in the atrium of his aesthetic realms – illustrating this cartographic journey of juxtaposed elements of figural and abstract elements. Allegorical and surrealist, these works, exploring the dimensions between the dreaming and waking states embrace and seek to reveal the artist’s panorama of creativity.
