CUPOLA ON THE CUSP BY SANJAY DAS UNFOLDS AT BIKANER HOUSE DURING RAJASTHAN UTSAV 2026, REIMAGINES HERITAGE THROUGH A LENS OF MEMORY AND TIME
Cupola on the Cusp: Sanjay Das’s Rajasthan Narratives at Bikaner House
Gallery Ragini unveils Cupola on the Cusp: History Through the Lens, a poignant photographic exhibition by renowned Sanjay Das, enriched with evocative text by Kishore Singh.
Opening at Bikaner House from 23–28 March 2026 as part of the vibrant Rajasthan Utsav, the exhibition invites audiences into a layered dialogue between art, memory and heritage.

“Rajasthan is a landscape I return to instinctively. Beyond its celebrated grandeur, there are quieter spaces that hold stories on the verge of fading. This body of work is an attempt to hold on to those moments – to preserve not just how these places look, but how they feel. Through these images, I hope to create a space where time slows down, and memory finds a way to endure.”—Artist Sanjay Das
Sanjay Das’s lens captures Rajasthan’s grandeur alongside its fading, lesser-seen spaces—abandoned havelis, weathered frescoes, and silent corridors—revealing histories that often slip outside dominant narratives. His photographs transcend documentation, becoming meditations on fragility, continuity and the passage of time.
As Kishore Singh notes, “Sanjay Das’s work resists the cliché. It exists in a space between myth and history, where architecture becomes both subject and metaphor—timeless, sentient and deeply evocative.”
Curated with the mentorship of Ina Puri, the exhibition is conceived as an immersive experience rather than a static display. Moving through the gallery, visitors encounter shifting perspectives—from intimate details to expansive forms—each image contributing to a larger narrative of endurance and transformation. Within the historic setting of Bikaner House, the exhibition gains added resonance, its royal legacy echoing the themes of preservation and disappearance.
“We are deeply grateful to Bikaner House and Rajasthan Utsav for providing a platform that celebrates heritage in such a meaningful way. It is a privilege for Gallery Ragini to be part of this dialogue. Sanjay’s work embodies the spirit of what we stand for – an artistic practice that is rooted in tradition yet distinctly contemporary,” shares Nidhi Jain, Gallery Ragini.
