Ritu Raga Presents “Biswa Bhara Gaan”: A Grand Celebration of Indian Classical Music in Katwa

Last month, on 17th December 2025, the cultural heart of Katwa, West Bengal, witnessed an unforgettable evening as Ritu Raga presented “Biswa Bhara Gaan”—a majestic festival of music and dance that illuminated Sanghati Mancha with devotion, discipline and dazzling artistry.

The event, part of the larger Biswa Bhara Pran series, drew an overwhelming turnout of music lovers who gathered to celebrate the timeless grandeur of Indian classical heritage.

The festival was ceremonially inaugurated by Pandit Dishari Chakraborty, the distinguished exponent of the Shatatantri Veena, alongside eminent sitar maestro Pandit Partha Pratim Roy and acclaimed pakhawaj artist Sri Nishaant Singh.

Thoughtfully organized by Guru Animesh Roy Chowdhury, a devoted disciple of Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajay Chakraborty Ji, the event carried a special dedication to the birth centenary of legendary music director Salil Chowdhury Ji, paying homage to his immortal contribution to Indian music.

Reflecting the spirit of guru–shishya parampara, students of varied age groups took part in the performances, embodying inclusivity and tradition. A highlight of the evening was the orchestral jugalbandi by 30 students, featuring pakhawaj, sitar and santoor under the guidance of Pandit Dishari Chakraborty. Based on Raga Bhatiyar, the presentation brimmed with dramatic phrasing, rhythmic vitality and youthful energy, earning thunderous applause from the audience.

The most anticipated segment arrived with a spellbinding jugalbandi: Pandit Dishari Chakraborty on Shatatantri Veena and Pandit Partha Pratim Roy on sitar, accompanied by Sri Nishaant Singh on pakhawaj and tabla maestro Pandit Bivash Sanghi. Their rendition of Raga Charukeshi in Dhrupad style unfolded with a meditative aalap and jor, followed by the lyrical Masidkhani gat, the energetic Razakhani gat, and a thrilling sawal–jawab, culminating in a powerful and dramatic tehai.

THE OVERCROWDED AUDITORIUM WAS LEFT MESMERIZED, AS “BISWA BHARA GAAN” CONCLUDED IN TRIUMPH—STANDING AS A RADIANT TESTAMENT TO THE ENDURING RICHNESS OF INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC AND THE VIBRANT LEGACY CARRIED FORWARD BY DEDICATED GURUS AND THEIR DISCIPLES.
