Beyond Borders: Korea–France Art Exhibition Celebrates 140 Years of Cultural Diplomacy in Paris
In March 2026, Paris became the stage for a luminous celebration of art and diplomacy with the exhibition “Beyond Borders”, commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France. Designed by the Institute of Culture Art’s Co Design in collaboration with the Mural Welfare Foundation, the exhibition unfolded under the visionary guidance of Dr. Larissa Noury, renowned artist and founding president of the Color-Space-Culture Association.
The exhibition was presented in two parts, from March 9–15 and March 16–22, offering visitors a journey through diverse artistic expressions that transcended national boundaries. Hosted at La Ville A Des Arts in Paris, the event welcomed audiences with extended hours, ensuring accessibility for art lovers throughout the week. The highlight was the vernissages where the atmosphere resonated with creativity, dialogue, and the spirit of cultural exchange.
Beyond Borders: Music, Color and Cultural Harmony
The inauguration of the exhibition Beyond Borders unfolded in two luminous moments—on March 10 and March 17—each graced by the exceptional performance of Laure Volpato (cello) and Marjan Ravandi (oud). Their ensemble, Duo D Âmes de Cœur, enchanted audiences with a dialogue of classical and traditional music, interwoven with poetry readings that deepened the resonance of the artworks on display.
In her address, Ms. Bang Nakyo, president of Art Co Design, emphasized the association’s mission: to unite artists from Daegu—both with and without disabilities—through a vision of art that embraces tradition, modernity and the future. By fostering exchange and organizing participatory programs, Art Co Design continues to promote Korean art and culture on an international stage.
For two weeks, the gallery became a kaleidoscope of colors and techniques, delighting visitors with diversity and depth. The celebration of World Color Day on March 21 added a symbolic dimension, honoring Korean hues in a global context.
The guest book overflowed with voices of wonder: “A very beautiful exhibition. The colors are soft and the styles are very diverse, thank you for this surprising discovery,” wrote one visitor, while another offered “A thousand thanks for this beautiful journey to the ends of the earth.” Yet another, moved by the experience, declared, “It’s magnificent; we want to see even more.” These heartfelt remarks crystallize a historical milestone—an enduring dialogue between two cultures whose encounter has ceaselessly inspired artists, thinkers and creators, weaving together a tapestry of beauty, gratitude and boundless imagination.
Reflecting on the exhibition’s success, curator Dr. Larissa Noury affirmed: “The exhibition has ended, but international artistic connections will continue to foster new projects in the future.”
Thus, Beyond Borders remains not only a commemoration of 140 years of Korea–France relations, but also a promise of enduring creativity across cultures.
“Beyond Borders” was more than an exhibition—it was a poetic testament to the enduring friendship between Korea and France. Through vibrant colors, evocative forms, and the interplay of tradition and modernity, the showcased works embodied the essence of cultural diplomacy: bridging nations through creativity.
