BASANT MAHOTSAV: CELEBRATING THE MUSICAL BRILLIANCE
Prof. Harvinder Singh, a distinguished vocalist, is set to grace the stage at the CSNA Basant Mahotsav on 2nd February. Accompanied by the talented Pandit Mithilesh Jha on the tabla and Prof. Gurmit Singh on the harmonium, Prof. Harvinder Singh promises an evening of enchanting Indian classical music.
This event, organized by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, celebrates the timeless treasure of Indian classical music on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami. The performance will take place at the Rani Lakshmi Bai Bhawan Auditorium in Chandigarh, starting at 6:00 PM.
The festival also features renowned musician Pandit Vinod Pawar on Sarangi, accompanied by Pandit Mithilesh Jha on Tabla.
Prof. Harvinder Singh, an eminent vocalist, has inherited the unique traits of Agra gayakee and a vast repertoire of rare ragas and compositions. He was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2022 by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, for his outstanding contributions to Hindustani Vocal. Prof. Singh studied under the tutelage of legends Pandit Laxman Krishanrao, Pandit Atam Prakash Sharma of Gwalior Gharana, Ustad Tarlochan Singh, disciple of legendary musician Ustad Abdul Waheed Khan of Kairana Gharana, and Vichitra Veena player Pandit Gopal Krishan, disciple of Sitar Maestro Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shanker.
Mithilesh Kumar Jha, a renowned Tabla maestro, began his training under the guidance of his father, Shri Gopikant Jha. Mithilesh Kumar Jha further refined his skills with the esteemed Guru Pandit Bulbul Maharaj of the Benaras Gharana, shaping him into the exceptional artist he is today. He received further guidance from sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan. Today, Mithilesh is a frequent performer with vocalists and instrumentalists both in India and abroad.
Pandit Mithilesh Kumar Jha is a prominent Tabla player of recent times, known for his collaborations with legendary artists like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Begum Parveen Sultana, Pandit Jasraj, Vidushi Girija Devi, Pandit Rajan-Sajan Mishra, Pandit Bhajan Sopori, and Vidushi Shubha Mudgal, among many others.
