BALA: A Soulful Dance Ballad by Darpan Dance Akademi
On July 2nd, 2025, the stage at Sri Sri Madhabdev Auditorium in Guwahati came alive with rhythm and color as Darpan Dance Akademi presented BALA, a heartfelt musical ballad. Supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, this mesmerizing performance brought together poetry, movement and music in a powerful artistic blend. Directed and envisioned by Manik Roy, with soulful choreography by Dr. Anjana Moyee Saikia’s team, BALA unfolded as a journey into emotions, tradition and creativity. Each painted costume, graceful step, and note of music echoed with devotion, shaped by a passionate ensemble of renowned artists and musicians.
BALA: A Stage Illuminated by Passionate Performers
In a vibrant celebration of Assamese heritage and heartfelt performance, BALA, presented by Darpan Dance Akademi, unfolded at the Sri Sri Madhabdev International Auditorium in Guwahati. Guided by the creative vision of Manik Roy and choreographed by Dr. Anjana Moyee Saikia and her dedicated team, this soul-stirring performance was brought to life by a remarkable ensemble of artists.
Each performer added a unique voice to the tapestry of movement and meaning: Dr. Anjana Moyee Saikia, Abhijit Chutia, Kaushik Kishore Hazarika, Karnika Phukon, Tanmoyee Borah, Bandita Deka, Deekshita Das, Tamasha Sahariya, Sunita Boro,Bhagyashree Mazumdar, Mriganga Raj Roy, Evan Saikia, Param Das and Firdoss Amin Choudhury. With powerful presence and poetic grace, the cast breathed life into each moment, making BALA more than a performance—it became a celebration of identity, artistry and community.

Guided by the thoughtful direction and design of Manik Roy, the performance brought together a stellar team of artists whose passion lit up the stage. The musical depth was shaped by Mandeep Mahanta and Luit Konwar Rudra Barua, with arrangements by Rupjyoti Konwar and Jaynath Deka, and heartfelt vocals from Panchuna Rabha, Bhiolina Boro, and Mandeep Mahanta himself.
The moving choreography and vibrant costumes were crafted by Dr. Anjana Moyee Saikia and Debajyoti Sarmah, while poetic lyrics penned by Luit Konwar Rudra Barua and Manik Roy gave voice to the spirit of the story.
The magic on stage was enhanced by Tapan Kumar Baruah’s lighting, Minati Deka’s makeup artistry, and Arif Uddin Ahmed (Vicky) who designed the stage properties.
The emotion of the night was beautifully captured through the lens of photographer Nilakshi Neog. Together, this ensemble gave life to BALA—a celebration of culture, collaboration, and the timeless power of performance.
