RENOWNED ARTIST SANTANU CHAKRABORTY SAYS ABOUT HIS WORK

The subjectivity and visual play of drawing and painting drew my work into the assimilation of tradition and my own perception. The objects are bound by some indigenous boundaries because of my schooling and their relation with my association, but they come to my work according to my own demand. A certain kind of tension between known and unknown is created through the displacement of those objects in my work as they bear their own identity. So, there also have been made plausibilities of unknown identities for these reasons. Through juxtaposing musical play of lines, colour-balance, ornamentation I tried to create an allegory, at the same time there is a certain kind of satire without denying our Indian aesthetical values.

The renowned artist Santanu Chakraborty has received many recognitions including the Kalanand State and City Award from Prafulla Dahanukar  Art Foundation, Mumbai (2016 and 2017) and Governor’s Award from The Society of Oriental Art, Kolkata in 2000.
