AIC 2024: GLOBAL COLOR EXPERTS UNITE IN SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL

“COLOUR IS THE SOUL OF NATURE AND OF THE ENTIRE COSMOS” – RUDOLF STEINER

The vibrant city of São Paulo, Brazil, played host to the prestigious Meeting of the International Association of Colour – AIC2024, held at ESPM from September 15 to 19, 2024. This year’s conference, themed “Color Design, Communication and Marketing,” delved into a myriad of fascinating topics and explored the intricate roles of color.  The discussions extended to various topics including Color in Branding and Marketing, Color and Consumer Behavior, Color in Design and Visual Communication (all forms of Design), Color and Consumer Products, Industrial color application (Cosmetics, paints, textiles among others), Color in Interior Design and Architecture, Color Semantics and Semiotics, Color and Psychology, Color and Physiology, Color and Physics, Colorimetry and Color Control and Color Order Systems, Color Education, Color in Art, Culture and History.

Dr. Prof. Paula Csillag, Chair of the AIC2024 conference at ESPM University, expressed her delight:

“How amazing to have so many wonderful universities at the International Color Association meeting! The profound interaction with experts in our auditoriums was truly remarkable. It was an honor to chair such an incredible event with 172 participants from 26 countries, including prestigious institutions like Harvard University, Politecnico di Milano, and the University of São Paulo.”

Among the standout keynote presenters at AIC2024 were Prof. Ph.D. Anat Lechner from NYU’s Stern School of Business, who captivated the audience with her insights on “Color Strategy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, shared her expertise on “The Crossover Colors: Utilizing Nature’s Most Abundant and Versatile Hues in All Areas of Design.” Patricia Fecci, Marketing Manager at Sherwin Williams, unveiled “Color Trends for 2025,” while Designer Ciça Costa, founder of Laboratório Cores da Floresta, highlighted the use of “Natural Pigments from the Brazilian Rainforest.” Additionally, Polar, Ltda. Design Studio presented on “Creating a Sense of Identity Through Design,” rounding out a series of thought-provoking and inspiring lectures.

Dr. Larissa Noury Highlights AIC 2024: A Global Gathering of Color Experts

The renowned artist Dr. Larissa Noury, architect-colourist and professor of Color Itecom Art & Design, Paris expressed her joy in participating in the AIC 2024 meeting as a colorist in art, design and architecture. Dr. Noury, a keynote speaker, presented on “Ecology of Color in Urban Environment” and chaired the session “Color in Art, Culture, and History.” Representing France and the French Center of Color, she also engaged in workshops on Brazilian plant watercolors and natural pigments. Additionally, she showcased her books — “Symbolic Colors. Art, design, architecture” and “Art and Haute Couture” during the Study Group Meeting “Color in Art and Design.” The conference offered a rich scientific program and opportunities to explore São Paulo’s museums and the famous Foz do Iguaçu waterfall.

Future congresses announced for Taipei, Florence and Valencia

Looking ahead, the AIC 2025 Congress is set to take place in the vibrant city of Taipei, Taiwan. Following that, the AIC 2026 will be hosted in the historic and artistic city of Florence, Italy, and the AIC 2027 will bring its colorful discussions to the beautiful city of Valencia, Spain. These upcoming events promise to continue the tradition of fostering global collaboration and innovation in the field of color.
