A Musical Tribute to the Legendary Poets of Bengal

Music and poetry have long been intertwined, shaping cultural narratives and touching hearts across generations.

On 24th May 2025 at Charubasona, Kolkata,  an enchanting evening awaits as Bandeesh (Kasba) takes center stage—a soulful event dedicated to honoring the legendary Bengali poets Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Through the magic of classical music, this program will explore how melody influenced the poetic expressions of these literary giants. Audiences can revel in the beauty of Rabindra Sangeet, performed by Sri Niladri Dev Bhattacharyya, alongside the stirring renditions of Nazrul Geeti and Thumri, brought to life by Smt. Nabanita Bhattacharya.

Adding another artistic dimension to the evening, a theatrical performance titled “Choo” will unfold, directed, acted, and musically supported by Sri Somen Gangopadhyay, with evocative background music by Kailash and Biswajit Sarkar’s voice. The drama features talented actors including Jayasree, Gouri, Payel and Tarak, offering a profound experience that blends storytelling with melody.

The musical ensemble will be accompanied by Pt. Raghunath Bhattacharyya and Samit Ghosh on tabla, ensuring a mesmerizing rhythm that carries the evening forward. The event will be seamlessly hosted by Mounita Paul, creating a space where literature, music and performance art come together in harmony.

Hosted at Charubasona, Jogen Chowdhury Center for the Arts, this event promises to be a journey through the soul of Bengali heritage. Organized by renowned musician Partha Pratim Roy, Joint Secretary of  Bandeesh, Kolkata, this musical soiree welcomes all who cherish the timeless beauty of poetry and classical music.
