The Rhythm That Traveled From Dehradun to Delhi

Every ghungroo has a story, and Richa Baluni’s began quietly in Dehradun, Uttarakhand — first as an Odissi student under Ms. Rakhi Kala, before her heart found its true rhythm in Kathak.

Guided by gurus Ms. Pooja Dangwal and Ms. Anjali Doundiyal, and later refined under the revered Guru Malti Shyam and Guru Gauri Diwakar at the National Institute of Kathak — Kathak Kendra, Delhi — Richa’s footwork carries decades of tradition in every spin. A Master’s in Performing Arts from Indira Kala Sangeet Vidyalaya, Khairagarh, and a Kathak Kendra scholarship mark her disciplined path.

Her stage has been as prestigious as her training — performances under Kathak Kendra,  a constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Ministry of Culture, including at the BRICS meeting, Environment Ministers’ Meeting at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, in August 2026.

Her recent duets at the Yuva Kala Mahotsav and Pracheen Kala Kendra reveal an artist still evolving, still listening to the beat.

For Richa Baluni, every taal dance is a small return to her roots — a reminder that discipline and devotion, learned over years under her gurus, are what turn movement into meaning.
