Meher Gupta & Kaavya Mittal Shine at UTSAAH: Kathak Companions Sharing the Stage with Padmashree Shovana Narayan

On the evening of August 1, 2026, the halls of Triveni Kala Sangam on Tansen Marg, New Delhi, filled with a light that had little to do with the stage lamps and everything to do with intention.

Here, the Vrindavan Foundation — known with quiet affection as Vrindan — unveiled UTSAAH: A Celebration of Indian Classical Dance, an evening where every mudra and every measure of taal carried a purpose far beyond performance.

An Evening Where Art Became Advocacy

UTSAAH was never meant to be simply an evening of entertainment. It was conceived as a luminous fund-raising initiative, one that channeled the transformative power of art toward a cause close to Vrindan’s heart: supporting specially-abled children. The Foundation’s mission — nurturing mental health through performing and visual arts, educating visually impaired youth, and empowering underprivileged autistic children — gave the evening its soulful heartbeat, turning applause into advocacy and spectacle into solidarity.

Lamps, Devotion and the First Notes of Grace

The program began as such evenings should: with the auspicious lighting of the lamp, a gesture that has opened classical Indian gatherings for centuries. What followed was a serene Shiv Stuti, rendered with quiet devotion by the gifted Meher Gupta, setting a tone of reverence that lingered through the night.

Soon after, dancer Kaavya Mittal stepped into the role of Shringarika from the Navarasa, her every gesture a poetic evocation of love and beauty — the kind of performance that seems to pause time rather than pass through it.

Kaavya and Meher, childhood friends and companions in the discipline of Kathak, came together for a duet recital that became the emotional centre of the night. The evening also paid tribute to those who have carried classical dance forward across generations. Distinguished Guests of Honor — Padmashree and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardees Nalini Asthana and Kamalini Asthana — were celebrated alongside the artists of the Archana Singh Academy of Dance, New Delhi.
