Vidushi Anjana Nath — A Radiant Voice of Patiala Gharana

The timeless musical heritage of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib continues to flow through generations, and among its most luminous inheritors stands Guru Vidushi Anjana Nath.

A Top Grade Artiste of All India Radio, she has carved her place as one of the most distinguished voices of the Patiala Gharana, blending rigorous taalim with soulful artistry.

From her early childhood, nurtured by her mother Smt. Kusumita Nath and inspired by her father Shri Harilal Nath, Anjana Nath blossomed into a vocalist of rare depth. Her training under Vidushi Meera Banerjee and Pandit Lalit Mohan Sanyal, both direct disciples of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib, laid the foundation of her artistry. Later, under the strict guidance of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, she refined her craft for a decade, mastering the intricacies of laya, sargam, and taans with pure raag dari.

From India’s Sacred Stages to Global Arenas

Her voice has graced prestigious platforms across India—Dover Lane Music Conference, Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Harballav Music Festival, Raja Rani Festival, UP and Bihar Sangeet Natak Academies, Banaras Hindu University, India International Centre, and Sangeet Research Academy—as well as countless festivals in Goa, Karnataka, Punjab, Delhi, and Kolkata. Internationally, she has enthralled audiences in England, Spain, Germany, Canada, and Switzerland, carrying the fragrance of Indian classical music to global stages.

With six CDs released in India and abroad, featuring her renditions of Khayal, Thumri, and Bhajans, Vidushi Anjana Nath has become a beacon of tradition and innovation. Her accolades include the National Talent Search Scholarship (1989), fellowship from the Government of India for her research on the psychological and physiological effects of Indian classical music (2006), and prestigious honors such as the Smt. Girija Devi Puraskar (2011) and the Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi National Award (2014).

Renowned vocalist Vidushi Anjana Nath now crowns her illustrious journey with the completion of her book “Gaite Gaan”, soon to be released in both Hindi and English. This work promises to be a lyrical testament to her lifelong devotion to the Patiala Gharana and her unwavering pursuit of musical truth.

Her disciples speak of her with reverence that transcends mere admiration.

As renowned vocalist Laxmi Priya beautifully reflects: “I accept my gurumaa is not only my guru… She is my deity, my mother, sometimes my friend, and philosopher. Her guidance cherishes me with courage to create something. She is  fantastic… As a legendary performer she is a ‘sherni’. Any raga she sings, we disciples are always shocked by the amazing soulful rendition. She treats every raga like puja, aradhana, dedication, and spirituality.”

In every note, Anjana Nath embodies the sacred union of discipline and devotion, reminding us that music, at its purest, is prayer. Her music is not merely performance—it is a confluence of knowledge and soul, where discipline meets devotion. Vidushi Anjana Nath embodies the eternal resonance of the Patiala Gharana, ensuring that the legacy of her gurus continues to inspire generations.
