Nababarsha Udjapan Committee — A Cultural Evening of Bengal’s New Year
On 15 April 2026, the Nababarsha Utsav Sammilani, Jadavpur, Kolkata, organized a vibrant cultural evening to mark the Bengali New Year’s Day. Directed by Smt. Banani Chakraborty, the celebration unfolded bringing together community, tradition and artistry in a festive atmosphere of renewal.
Hosted by the Jadavpur Bangla Nababarsha Utsav Sammilani, Mitrayan presented a deeply moving dance performance titled “Shantir Bari”. The presentation carried a universal message — that the world must remain shrouded in peace, free from jealousy, anger, hatred and conflict.
Through graceful movements and evocative choreography, the performance urged humanity to embrace harmony, transcending barriers of caste and color. It reminded us that our true strength lies in unity, and that every individual’s deepest desire is simply to live in peace, away from the devastation of war.
As Smt. Banani Chakraborty, Director of Mitrayan, Kolkata, expressed: “Our only demand is that the world wants to live a little. None of us wants to face war and the destruction that results from it. We are only peaceful beings. So on behalf of Mitrayan, we would like to tell all that unity is the real strength.”
The performance stood as a luminous testament to the power of art — a voice for peace, a plea for compassion, and a celebration of humanity’s shared longing for harmony.
The event was adorned with the spirit of Bengal’s heritage — music, dance and cultural performances that reflected the timeless essence of Nababarsha.
This gathering was not merely a celebration but a reaffirmation of Bengal’s living culture. It offered audiences a chance to welcome the new year with collective harmony, artistic expression, and the promise of fresh beginnings.
