Between Whispers and Walls — Lorraine Thiria’s Photography Unveils the Beauty of Imperfection
Renowned French visual artist Lorraine Thiria, hailing from Paris, presents her evocative exhibition Between Whispers and Walls at Kalinka Art Gallery, Pondicherry.
Known for her poetic exploration of matter and the memories it holds, Lorraine Thiria turns mineral and mural surfaces into living archives. By embracing matter both as subject and medium, she reveals the quiet resonance of time etched into walls, stones and textures. Her lens transforms imperfections into luminous narratives, inviting viewers to witness how memory lingers in the very fabric of surfaces — whispering stories between silence and decay.
Following her two‑month residency at Alliance Française of Pondicherry, Lorraine Thiria’s exhibition Between Whispers and Walls captures the city’s language and its residual memories through the silent testimony of its walls. Facades layered in stone, eroded by vegetation, and marked by time become living tableaux — landscapes where heritage, nature, and memory converge in quiet resonance.
Born in Paris, Lorraine Thiria devoted two decades to law, defending women and children, before turning fully to painting, photography and writing. Her vision, rooted in textural painting and pictorial abstraction, imbues her photography with painterly codes and inspirations.
Exhibiting across the world — from Kyoto and Kuala Lumpur to New Delhi, Paris, and Korea — she has also enriched her practice through residencies in Jordan, Pondicherry, and soon Beijing, where her project has been selected for the Bicentennial of Photography.
