What is Love – A Journey to Find the Self: An Inclusive Art Exhibition at India Habitat Centre
From 28–31 March 2026, the Open Palm Court at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, will host a profoundly moving exhibition titled “What is Love – A Journey to Find the Self.” Conceptualised by Dr. Madhumita Puri and organised by Prabhat – Society for Child Development, this exhibition is more than an artistic showcase—it is a testament to resilience, creativity and the limitless power of human expression.
BRINGING TOGETHER THE VOICES OF 15 YOUNG WOMEN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES LIVING IN LIFELONG SHELTER CARE, THE EXHIBITION IS THE CULMINATION OF A FIVE-MONTH CREATIVE ENGAGEMENT.
Guided by the question “What is Love?”, the participants embarked on a journey of self-discovery, weaving emotions, memories and personal truths into their art. Their works are not mere visuals; they are intimate reflections of identity, longing and the courage to be heard.
This experiment with physically challenged girls, some of whom are also deaf, reveals how art transcends barriers. Each canvas becomes a language of its own—expressing tenderness, joy, and vulnerability in ways words often cannot. Supported with care and patience by artists Suparna Arora, Shalini Dull and Babli Das, the participants found new pathways to creativity, shaping a collective narrative of love and selfhood.
In this deeply nurturing initiative, three renowned artists—Suparna Arora (Ceramics), Shalini Dutt (Textiles) and Sujata Das (Paintings)—guided the participants through twice-weekly sessions where art became a language beyond words. Within this safe and patient space, clay was shaped into symbolic forms, textiles woven into intricate patterns, and paintings infused with vibrant hues—each work quietly narrating stories of comfort, belonging, memory and hope.
More than an art programme, it became a sanctuary of healing and dignity, where young women with intellectual and physical challenges reclaimed their sense of identity and expressed emotions often left unheard. The exhibition will present ceramics, textiles, paintings, installations, photographs, and collaborative pieces—inviting visitors to witness love explored through creativity and human connection.
At its heart, the exhibition is a call for inclusion, empathy and recognition of talent. It reminds us that creativity knows no boundaries, and every voice—especially those often unheard—deserves to be seen, celebrated and cherished.
