Kalāpraveśikā 2026: A Spiritual Prelude to Indian Performing Arts

On 23 March 2026, the prestigious five-day festival Kalāpraveśikā, hosted by the Kolkata Centre for Creativity in collaboration with Manipuri Nartanālayā and Darpani Dance Academy, opens its doors with a profound theme: “Spirituality and its Reflection in Indian Performing Arts – Rabindranath Tagore’s Vision.”

The inaugural day promises to be a luminous confluence of thought and artistry. Distinguished voices—Shri Amit DasguptaSmt. Vandana Alase Hazra, and Shri Arya Jana—will guide audiences through Tagore’s timeless philosophy, exploring how his vision of spirituality continues to resonate in the rhythms, gestures, and narratives of Indian dance and music.

Day 2: Creativity, Choreography & Copyright in Dance

On 24 March 2026, Kalāpraveśikā will continue its radiant journey at the Kolkata Centre for Creativity, unfolding a day dedicated to the intricate interplay of imagination, artistry and law. The theme, “Creativity, Choreography and Copyright in Dance,” invites reflection on how originality in movement is both celebrated and safeguarded in the evolving landscape of Indian performing arts.

Guiding this exploration are eminent voices—Dr. Urmimala Sarkar MunsiGuru Priti Patel, and Dr. Aishika Chakraborty—each bringing a unique perspective on the delicate balance between artistic freedom and intellectual property. Their insights illuminate how choreography, often ephemeral and embodied, can be preserved, protected, and honored as a creative legacy.

Day 3: Abhinaya and Stagecraft

On 25 March 2026, Kalāpraveśikā will turn its gaze toward the expressive heart of performance with the theme “Abhinaya (Aharya Abhinaya emphasized) and Stagecraft – Usages, Evolution, Disputes and Agreement.”

The day’s dialogue, led by Shri Dheeman Bhattacharya and Shri Vikram Iyengar, promises a refined exploration of how costume, gesture, and stagecraft shape the language of Indian performing arts. Their perspectives will illuminate the delicate balance between tradition and innovation, tracing the evolution of theatrical expression while acknowledging the debates and agreements that have defined its journey.

Day 4: Production in the Making

On 26 March 2026, Kalāpraveśikā will enter its fourth chapter with the theme “Production in Making – Rigour, Nuances and Insight.”

This day’s dialogue, led by Shri Arnab Bandyopadhay and Dr. Bimbavati Devi, shines a light on the unseen layers of artistic creation—the discipline, subtlety, and vision that shape a performance long before it reaches the stage. Their perspectives promise to unravel the meticulous processes behind production, where every detail becomes a thread in the larger tapestry of dance and theatre.

 Day 5: Divine Dance Productions

On 27 March 2026, Kalāpraveśikā culminates in a grand finale, bringing together the spiritual and artistic essence of the festival through two remarkable productions.

The evening will feature “Kṛṣṇānubhava and Śivasākti…United in Divine” by renowned  Shri Arnab Bandyopadhyay, a work that celebrates the union of devotion and cosmic energy. Alongside it, Dr. Bimbavati Devi presents “Dēvātmayī…Soul of the Gods,” a creation that embodies the sacred spirit of dance as a vessel of divine presence.

Brief yet profound, the finale affirms dance as both an offering and a revelation—closing the five-day journey with grace, depth and luminous artistry.

Set against the serene backdrop of KCC’s 4th Floor, Hall 1 & 2, Kalāpraveśikā will soon unfold as a rare confluence of intellect and artistry.

Beginning on 23 March 2026, this five-day festival will weave together discourse and performance, offering participants the chance to witness the union of philosophy and creativity in its purest form.

MORE THAN AN EVENT, KALĀPRAVEŚIKĀ STANDS AS AN INVOCATION—AN INVITATION TO JOURNEY INWARD AND REDISCOVER THE SPIRITUAL ESSENCE THAT CONTINUES TO BREATHE LIFE INTO INDIA’S PERFORMING TRADITIONS
