Pancha-Tattva: Material Matters — A Cosmic Dialogue in Craft
In the heart of New Delhi, Gallery Kolkata inaugurates its new space with a landmark exhibition — Pancha-Tattva: Material Matters.
Curated and designed by Ankon Mitra, and presented by Meghna Agarwala, this showcase runs from 14 March to 20 April 2026 at Greater Kailash II. More than an exhibition, it is a meditation on the elemental forces that shape both the universe and human creativity.
The concept draws from the ancient philosophy of the Pancha-Tattva — Space, Air, Water, Earth and Fire. These cosmic elements are not merely metaphors but living forces that guide the maker’s hand. Beginning with the void, the seed of creation evolves through the three gunas: Sattva, the inherent qualities of material; Rajas, the dynamic intention of the maker; and Tamas, the inner impulses that manifest in the act of making. This philosophical framework transforms the exhibition into a dialogue between matter and spirit, craft and cosmos.
Featuring 29 makers, the exhibition bridges generations and disciplines.
Senior artists such as Kavita Nayar, Arunkumar HG, Sheela Chamariya, and Srila Mookherjee stand alongside prolific designers like Siddhartha Das, Joya Nandurdikar, and Amrita Guha. Contemporary design voices — Arjun Rathi, Malavika Singh, Babar Afzal, Amrita Nambiar, and Bandana Jain — bring their brand-driven innovations, while architects including Sushant Verma, Nitin Barchha, Jwalant Mahadevwala, Kanishka Jain, and Piyusha Patwardhan challenge disciplinary boundaries with material experimentation.
Distinct artistic vocabularies emerge through the works of Aakriti Kumar, Pintu Sikder, Parth Parikh, and Jenjum Gadi, while emerging talents such as Revati Jayakrishnan, Mayadhar Sahu, Abhishek Chakraborty, Chandrapal Panjre, Srinia Chowdhury, and Keshav Gupta signal the future of material-led practice. Together, they form a constellation of voices united by their devotion to material exploration and craftsmanship.
With Meghna Agarwala’s vision and Ankon Mitra’s curatorial depth, Pancha-Tattva: Material Matters inaugurates Gallery Kolkata’s New Delhi chapter with resonance and ambition.
