Pravasi Bharatiya Sangeet & Nritya Mahotsav 2026 in Kolkata – A Celebration of Indian Arts
At the historic Rathindra Mancha, Jorasanko Thakurbari in Kolkata, the Pravasi Bharatiya Sangeet & Nritya Mahotsav 2026 unfolded last month as a luminous confluence of music, dance and heritage. Presented by Swaranjali Delhi in association with Sarbabharatiya Sangeet O Sanskriti Parishad, the festival brought together renowned maestros and promising talents, weaving a tapestry of tradition and innovation.
The Mahotsav opened with Vandana, directed by eminent vocalist Vidushi Jaya Biswas of Sur Sanchari Sangeet Vidyalaya, Krishnanagar. Young talented—Pritam Chakraborty (Tabla), Poly Saha, Satarupa Sengupta, and Udita Sengupta—offered performances that radiated freshness while honoring classical discipline.
The stage then welcomed distinguished soloists and ensembles:
- Tabla Solo by Vidwan Florian Schiertz, a rhythmic dialogue of precision and passion.
- Sarod Recital by Shri Monit Paul, evoking the depth of raga with lyrical grace.
- Vocal Presentation by Vidushi Mitali Bhawmik, whose voice carried the resonance of devotion and artistry.
- Dance Performances by Nritya Malancha, Siliguri, showcasing vibrant choreography.
- Bharatnatyam by Shri Subhajit Dutta, a disciplined exploration of form and bhava.
- Kuchipudi by Ms. Ipshita Chakraborty, blending narrative charm with dynamic movement.
- Odissi by Smt. Debdatta Lahiri, a sculptural flow of grace and tradition.
- Kathak by Smt. Trisha Pal Das, where rhythm met storytelling in elegant spins and footwork.
The festival was enriched by the presence of co-artists Pandit Amit Chatterjee, Shri Tapas Guha Thakurata, and Dr. Kamalaksha Mukherjee, while Smt. Sonali Chattapadhyay anchored the proceedings with poise and warmth.
