Born into a distinguished Vaidic-Thanthric family in Ballapadavu, Kasaragod, Kerala, Ganapraveena Yogeesha Sharma Ballapadavu has emerged as one of the most respected torchbearers of Carnatic Classical Music. Son of Sri Ballapadavu Radhakrishna Bhat and Smt. Sathyavathi, his musical journey began under the guidance of Sri Ballapadavu Madhava Upadhyaya and later Sri Vellikoth Vishnu Bhat. His training was further enriched under stalwarts such as Prof. Mavelikkara Velukutti Nair in Mrudangam and Prof. K. Venkataramanan in Carnatic vocal at the prestigious Swathi Thirunal Music College, Thiruvananthapuram.
A Ganapraveena degree holder with First Rank at the Kerala State Level, Yogeesha Sharma’s academic brilliance is matched by his devotion to pedagogy. His monumental contribution, the textbook Sangeetha Patamalika, has become a trusted reference for countless music teachers and aspirants, while his Kannada publication Mrudanga Margadarshika continues to guide students of percussion with clarity and precision.
Through the esteemed Veenavadini Sangeetha Vidyapeetam at his native Ballapadavu, he has dedicated himself to spreading and popularizing pure Carnatic Classical Music, ensuring that tradition remains vibrant for future generations. His artistry extends beyond teaching—he has rendered and released numerous albums, including Ragasudha (Carnatic Classical Music), Gems of Purandaradasa (Parts I & II), Chottanikkara Bhagavathisthavam (devotional), Bhavabindu (Bhavageethe), Ayyanadigalalli (Ayyappa devotional songs), and Sri Madhuru Siddhivinayaka Suprabhatham. Renowned musician Yogeesha Sharma is a Graded Artiste of All India Radio, Mangalore, whose concerts have resonated across prestigious platforms including Doordarshan, Amrita TV, Asianet TV, Athmeeya Yathra, and numerous local channels of Kasaragod and Dakshina Kannada. His performances embody both discipline and devotion, earning admiration from critics, connoisseurs, and audiences alike.
A versatile performer, he has successfully presented the rare Kathakali Padam–Carnatic Music Jugalbandi, showcasing his ability to bridge traditions with innovation. His stamina and dedication are legendary—having rendered 12-hour continuous music concerts thrice, and even conducting Music Therapy Demonstrations that reveal his belief in the healing power of sound.
Yogeesha Sharma’s artistry has graced Sangeetha Sabhas across India and abroad, from Dubai and Kuwait to Chennai, Mumbai, Bhilai, Belur, Puttaparti, Orissa, Assam, West Bengal, and nearly every major Sabha in Kerala and Karnataka. His contributions have been recognized by eminent institutions and cultural organizations across India, reflecting the respect he commands among musicians, critics, and audiences alike.
Among his many accolades, he received the “Sangeetha Jyotishree Puraskar” from the Kalyassery Krishnan Nambiar Bhagavathar Memorial Music Society in 2025, and the “Yaksha Dhruva Kalaa Gourava” from the Patla Foundation in 2023. In 2021, the Association Rangachinnari Kasaragod honoured him with the “Ranga Chinnari Award” for his outstanding work in the field of music. Earlier recognitions include the “KALAKA Award” from Kadri Lions Club, Mangaluru (2016), and the distinguished title of “Kanchi Kamakoti Aasthana Vidwan” conferred by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam (2012).
His excellence was acknowledged as early as 2001, when he received both the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Endowment Award and the Prathibha Puraskar Award from Sri Mahadeva Temple, Ubrangala, Kasaragod. Further recognition came with the Trivandrum Rashtra Raksha Sanchalanam Prathibha Puraskar Award in 2006, adding to his long list of honours.

Veenavadini Sangeetha Vidyapeetam – A Sanctuary of Classical Tradition
With the noble aim of spreading and popularizing pure Carnatic Classical Music, renowned musician Ganapraveena Yogeesha Sharma Ballapadavu established the BSNUS Sangeetha Prathishtanam (R) in 1999 at his native Ballapadavu, Kasaragod. Operating through the Veenavadini Sangeetha Vidyapeetam, this institution has become a beacon of heritage, nurturing students with an inner sense of mission in music. It stands as a natural home for the rebirth of the Guru–Shishya Parampara, where timeless traditions are passed on with devotion and discipline.
Under the trust, Yogeesha Sharma also founded the Vaidic-Thanthric Vidyapeetam, dedicated to teaching Vedas, Thanthra, Manthra, Jyothishyam, and Sanskrit under the guidance of Brahmasri Mullapalli Krishnan Namboodiri. This expansion reflects his vision of integrating music with spiritual and scholarly pursuits, creating a holistic cultural ecosystem.
Veenavadini has flourished as a vibrant hub, conducting offline and online classes, organizing workshops such as Muraleeravam and Ganamadhuryam, and hosting concerts by legendary artistes including Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Prince Ramavarma, Sri Sandeep Narayan, and Sri Sanjay Subrahmanyam.
