Uttaran Dance Drama Festival 2026: A Celebration of Divine Stories and Artistic Grace

On January 5, 2026, Gyan Manch, Kolkata,  will shine with rhythm and devotion as Malashree presents Uttaran, a festival of dance dramas weaving myth, nature and human emotion. Curated with cultural excellence, it unites renowned institutions and choreographers on one stage—an evening of rich narrative, graceful movement, and timeless music.

Surya Deva – The Sun God, performed by Saveri Odissi Dance School under the direction of Smt. Nandini Ghosal, opens the evening with radiant energy. The choreography pays homage to the celestial force that sustains life, blending Odissi’s sculptural grace with spiritual fervor.

Megh Mallar, presented by Sahana Dance Troupe and directed by Sri Rudrabha Niyogi, follows with a lyrical ode to the monsoon. The dancers evoke clouds, longing, and the music of rain—an immersive experience that stirs both memory and mood.

Debotar Graas, performed by Malashree and choreographed by Smt. Sampita Chatterjee and Dr. Arpita Venkatesh, explores divine sacrifice and transcendence. With layered storytelling and emotive movement, this piece invites reflection on the sacred and the mortal.

Drohi, the final act by Kohinoor Dance Academy, directed by Kohinoor Sen Barat, confronts betrayal and inner conflict. Bold and contemporary, it closes the evening with intensity and dramatic flair.

Each performance in Uttaran is a window into the soul of Indian dance—where tradition meets innovation, and stories unfold through expressive movement.
