Rising Stars Shine at International Odissi Dance Festival 2025

On 29th December 2025, the stage of the International Odissi Dance Festival (IODF) in Bhubaneswar, organized by the Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra Odissi Research Centre (GKCMORC), witnessed the graceful performance of two promising young dancers—Abhisikta Ghosh and Samanwita Biswas, disciples of renowned Odissi exponent Smt. Sriparna Bose. Their presentation was a heartfelt tribute to the timeless beauty of Odissi, blending devotion, artistry and youthful brilliance.

The duo performed Sritakamala (abhinaya) from Jayadev’s Geeta Govind, a 12th-century masterpiece that celebrates Lord Krishna’s divine romance with the gopikas. Choreographed by Padmabibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, directed by Smt. Sriparna Bose, and set to the soulful music of Pandit Bhubaneswar Mishra in Raag Khamaj with Jyoti and Ekatali taals, the piece radiated lyrical beauty and spiritual depth.

They also presented the intricate Kamodi Pallavi, choreographed by Guru Smt. Aloka Kanungo, with music composed by Sri Ramahari Das. Based on Raag Kamodi and performed in Ektaali and Khemta taals, the pallavi showcased their technical precision and expressive grace, leaving the audience enthralled.

THROUGH THESE PERFORMANCES, ABHISIKTA AND SAMANWITA NOT ONLY HONORED THEIR GURUS BUT ALSO CARRIED FORWARD THE RICH LEGACY OF ODISSI DANCE, EMBODYING THE SPIRIT OF TRADITION AND INNOVATION THAT DEFINES THE FESTIVAL.
