Amrit Wakya – A Classical Manipuri Dance Inspired by the Bhagavad Gita

On 11th December 2025, the sacred halls of Mayapur ISKCON, Kolkata will witness a rare cultural offering—Amrit Wakya, a classical Manipuri dance composition inspired by the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita.

Renowned Manipuri artist Sudip Kumar Ghosh will present this masterpiece, weaving together spirituality, devotion and self-discovery through the graceful language of dance. The composition draws its lyrics from the verses of the Gita, transforming philosophy into rhythm, movement and emotion.

The journey of Sudip Kumar Ghosh is itself a testament to dedication and artistry. Guided by the eminent dance guru K. Jatin Singh of Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, Sudip entered the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy. There, under the Guru-Shishya tradition, he received profound training from Guru Th. Chourajeet Singh, son of Padma Shri Guru Th. Babu Singh and Smt. N. Amusana Devi. His disciplined practice and creative vision have established him as a Graded Artist at Doordarshan Kendra, Kolkata, carrying forward the legacy of Manipuri dance with elegance and depth.

Amrit Wakya is more than a performance—it is a spiritual dialogue expressed through movement. Each gesture reflects the eternal teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, inviting the audience to experience devotion, inner awakening, and the harmony of body and soul.

AMRIT WAKYA – DANCE AS A PATH TO SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

Amrit Wakya is a classical Manipuri dance composition that breathes life into select shlokas of the Bhagavad Gita. Through its lyrical foundation, the performance explores profound themes—the nature of reality and the self, the journey towards self-realization, the importance of duty and righteousness, and the role of devotion and surrender in spiritual growth. Each verse becomes a guiding light, and each movement transforms into a meditation on truth and inner awakening.

The choreography, crafted by Guru Chourjeet Thingbaijam and Guru Thingbaijam Bimola Devi, is a delicate tapestry of gestures, expressions, and rhythm. The dancer’s body becomes an instrument of wisdom, translating the timeless philosophy of the Gita into visual poetry. Every step and every glance carries meaning, inviting the audience to feel the depth of the scripture beyond words.

Accompanying this dance is music composed by Shri Thingbaijam Nokuljeet Singh, designed to stir devotion and contemplation. The melody flows like a prayer, while the rhythm mirrors the pulse of spiritual longing. Together, dance and music create an atmosphere where art and philosophy merge seamlessly.

The performance of Amrit Wakya is not just an artistic display—it is a spiritual offering. It reminds us that the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita remain ever relevant, guiding hearts across generations. As the dancer embodies these truths, the audience is invited to reflect on their own lives, discovering the transformative power of devotion, duty and self-realization.

The evening promises to be a luminous celebration of tradition and divine inspiration.
