Hazara Rama Temple – A Timeless Gem of Hampi’s Royal Legacy
Nestled in the heart of Hampi’s royal quarters, the Hazara Rama Temple stands as a quiet marvel of devotion and artistry.
Built in the early 15th century by King Devaraya II, this elegant shrine was once the private temple of the Vijayanagara kings, dedicated to Lord Rama. Its name comes from the countless stone carvings that narrate the epic Ramayana—each panel a poetic retelling etched in granite. The temple’s outer walls glow with scenes of Rama and Krishna, while lively carvings of elephants, horses, dancers and soldiers capture the spirit of the Dasara festival.
Just beyond its threshold, the historic Hazaara Ramachandra Bazaar—also known as Pan Supari Street—once bustled with shrines, tanks and mandaps.
Nearby, the temple of Goddess Durga reminds us of the grandeur of Mahanavami celebrations.
Hazara Rama Temple is not just a monument—it’s a living story carved in stone.
