LECTURE AND DEMONSTRATIONS ON GAUDIA NRITYA, A CLASSICAL FORM OF BENGAL by PROF. MAHUA MUKHOPADHYAYformer Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts and Director, Centre for Studies in Dance Form of Bengal, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata will be held on 26 October 2022 at 6. 30 PM.

Dr. Mahua Mukherjee is an exponent, pioneer researcher who has revived the Indian Classical Dance form Gaudiya Nritya. She is a senior professor of the Department of Dance and former Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts of Rabindra Bharati University. Along with her husband Amitava Mukherjee she has been reviving the dance style through her career from 1980. She has also given performances and lectures as Fulbright visiting Professor at the University of Oklahoma, USA.

Mahua Mukherjee is also the founder dance director of the institute, Gaudia Nritya Bharati and former director of Mitryan.  She has studied M.Sc., Ph.D in Botany from Calcutta University.

She has been the subject of a poem written by Nigerian writer Tanure Ojaide published in his collection ‘ The beauty I have seen: A Trilogy’. She also features in documentary films – Dance of God (1977), Geetamay Tanmay- Trance in Motion (2012) made by Film Division, government of India, Resurrection (Rajya Sabha TV) in 2013, Gaudiya Nritya – Golden Glory: A Classical Dance of Bengal and many others.

Dr. Mahua Mukherjee has about 20 books and over 180 articles to her credit.

Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-O-Sanskriti Parishad was formed in 1976 to propagate, foster and preserve traditional forms of Indian Art and Culture as it is perceived that the traditional art forms were facing various threats including from the electronic media.

The Parishad has since then started affiliating Training Centres in different parts of West Bengal.

Cultural institutions throughout India and abroad associated with art and culture are affiliated for educating students in 26 various subjects now.

Parishad organizes national level art exhibitions in most reputed art galleries like Lalit Kala Academy New Delhi, Academy of Fine Arts Kolkata, Gaganendra Art Gallery, Assam State Art Council, Guwahati.

1st International Art Exhibition was held at the Nepal Art Council in Babarmahal from 17 October 2019 to 20 October 2019 participating artists from India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
